Abstract The development and conditions of anthropogenic cryopegs in perennially frozen alluvial deposits of the Lena Valley (Tuimaada) have been investigated. Analysis of results of integrated permafrost and hydrogeochemical investigations in 1985-2001 showed that the hydrogeological regime and vertical migration of cryopeg lenses within perennially frozen alluvial sands are dependent on changes in hydrogeological factors. The main processes responsible for the formation of three layers of cryopegs have been identified.
