Abstract In this study, the effects of major environmental factors on the growth and EPS production of Antarctic bacteria S-15-13 were investigated. Meanwhile, cloned 16S rDNA and another 24 related sequences were included in a consensus phylogenetic analysis using the neighboring-joining method. The results show that the optimal conditions for EPS production were a culture period of 56 hours, a growth temperature of 8°C, a carbon source of 1.0% glucose, a NaCl concentration of 3.0%, and a pH of 6.0-7.0. Phylogenetic analysis indicates the strain S-15-13 is a Pseudoalteromonas species.
